Landscape boulders are one of the cornerstones of landscape design. These large rocks can serve as a natural focal point to anchor a landscape and provide depth and texture to an otherwise flat landscape. There are two basic types of these large landscape rocks. The first is round surface stones with smooth textures. These are found stones and are round because of natural erosion and weathering over thousands of years. The second type is known as angular quarried stones with strong lines and edges that make a statement. They are usually created and are struck chiseled or cut out of the ground. Each stone is unique and can serve its purpose to blend in or stand out amongst the foliage. Therefore we recommend digging low enough to bury a third of the boulder to ensure a natural look. Also try to randomize the setting of boulders so that the tops are asymmetrical in height from each other. Different heights will look great but keep in mind that different angles can look unnatural.
